Brixham

One of Britain’s busiest fishing ports, Brixham lies at the southern end of the English Riviera. This charming South Devon harbour town is one of the three main centres of Torbay, along with Paignton and Torquay.

Dotted with pastel-coloured fishermen’s cottages, Brixham has a vibrant arts and culture scene and some unique attractions.

Wander around the many shops, watch the fishermen unload their daily catch or head down to Artist's Corner. You’ll find some of the English Riviera's most spectacular scenery within easy walking distance from the town centre

Dartmouth

This historic quayside town, situated on the banks of the River Dart, is filled with narrow winding streets, hidden steps, boutiques and stylish galleries. Home to the magnificent Royal Naval College, the town is known for its maritime history.

Take a short trip upriver to Totnes or a day trip out to sea along the coast to Brixham. Dartmouth Castle, the first purpose-built artillery tower in the country, is well worth a visit.

Dartmoor National Park

Protected by National Park status since 1951, Dartmoor is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The park covers 954 square kilometres and is characterised by bleak and beautiful moorland, rugged granite tors and vast expanses of wilderness. Nestled amongst the remote wilderness are old villages and towns like Widecombe, Ashburton and Chagford, all worth exploring.

Dartmoor is excellent for walking, cycling, climbing, watersports, fishing and horse riding. There are countless delightful towns and villages to explore, including Princetown (the striking home of Dartmoor Prison), Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Ponsworthy, Chagford, Sticklepath and Drewsteignton.

Salcombe

Just under an hour’s drive from the English Riviera, the vibrant estuary town of Salcombe is one of the most beautiful locations in South Devon. Lying in the protected South Devon National Landscape area, Salcombe is a popular holiday and sailing resort.

Salcombe is surrounded by tranquil countryside with a magnificent scenic coastline. Discover sandy beaches, a range of watersports, fabulous eateries and shops and take the ferry to South Sands Beach for an unforgettable adventure.

Exeter

Devon’s capital city is modern and full of life, with a history pre-dating the Romans. The city is packed with fascinating attractions, including the Quayside, the Roman Wall and the unique underground passages.

Exeter Cathedral stands proudly at the centre of the city. Built in a similar style to Salisbury Cathedral, it boasts an eventful past. Restored by Charles II but damaged in the English Civil War, it was then heavily bombed during the Blitz. Surrounded on all sides by well-maintained lawns, the stunning architecture is a must-see.

With a mix of museums, parks, shops and independent boutiques, lively markets, restaurants and interesting landmarks, a day in Exeter is recommended.
